Services
What we offer
Yellowstone Assay & Metals provides a full range of metals services — from authentication and testing to estate support, liquidation guidance, and segregated storage. Every service is delivered without conflict of interest and without a sales agenda.
Authentication & Testing
We verify whether metals are genuine using professional-grade testing methods.
Many items that appear to be gold or silver are plated, filled, or counterfeit. Acid testing, specific gravity measurement, and XRF analysis are among the methods we use. We tell you what you actually have — not what you hope it is.
- Visual and physical inspection
- Acid testing for gold and silver
- Specific gravity measurement
- Magnet and conductivity screening
- XRF elemental analysis (see below)
XRF Analysis
X-ray fluorescence analysis provides precise elemental composition without damaging the piece.
XRF is the industry standard for non-destructive metals identification. It tells us exactly what elements are present and in what proportions — distinguishing solid gold from gold-filled, sterling silver from silver-plated, and identifying alloy compositions with precision.
- Non-destructive — no cutting, drilling, or acid required
- Results in minutes
- Identifies gold, silver, platinum, palladium, and base metals
- Distinguishes solid, filled, plated, and clad items
- Suitable for coins, bars, jewelry, flatware, and industrial metals
Valuation & Metals Review
A structured review of your metals holdings — what is present, what is genuine, and what it is worth.
A Metals Review is a comprehensive, documented session in which we examine your holdings, authenticate each piece, assess melt value based on current spot prices, and identify items that may carry numismatic or collectible premium above melt. You leave with a written summary.
- Full inventory and authentication of presented items
- Melt value calculation at current spot prices
- Identification of numismatic or collectible premium items
- Written summary provided after each session
- No purchase offer — no conflict of interest
Estate & Inherited Metals Support
Helping families and estate professionals understand inherited metals before any decisions are made.
Inherited metals are often unorganized, unidentified, and of unknown value. They arrive in shoeboxes, safe deposit boxes, and estate lots. We help families, executors, and estate attorneys understand what they have — clearly and without pressure — so that informed decisions can be made about distribution, liquidation, or retention.
- Full inventory and authentication of estate metals
- Documentation suitable for estate and probate purposes
- Coordination with estate attorneys and CPAs
- No purchase pressure — we work for clarity, not acquisition
- Available for on-site or in-office review
Liquidation Guidance
When it is time to sell, we help you understand your options, realistic values, and the process.
Yellowstone may be one buyer among several a client considers, and we are transparent that we earn on the spread when we purchase metals. But the guidance itself stays neutral. We explain the difference between melt buyers, coin dealers, auction houses, and private sales — and help you understand what realistic net proceeds look like in each channel so you can compare and decide for yourself. We do not tell you what to do. We tell you what your options are.
- Explanation of available liquidation channels
- Realistic net proceeds analysis by channel
- Guidance on timing and documentation
- Transparent disclosure when Yellowstone is a potential buyer
- No pressure to sell through any particular buyer
Professional Coordination
Working alongside estate attorneys, CPAs, wealth advisors, and family offices.
We serve as a metals resource for professionals who need clarity on their clients' holdings. We provide documentation, answer technical questions, participate in estate and planning meetings, and coordinate with other advisors to ensure that metals are properly understood and accounted for.
- Documentation for estate and probate proceedings
- Technical consultation for CPAs and wealth advisors
- Participation in estate planning and review meetings
- Coordination with trust officers and family offices
- Available for ongoing advisory relationships
Segregated Storage
Secure, organized, and documented custody for physical metals holdings.
Physical metals require thoughtful custody. We offer segregated storage options for clients who need their holdings to be secure, organized, and properly documented — whether for personal holdings, estate assets, or professionally managed accounts. Segregated storage means your metals are held separately, not commingled.
- Fully segregated — your metals are not commingled
- Detailed inventory and documentation maintained
- Regular reporting available
- Suitable for personal, estate, and professionally managed holdings
- Coordinated access for authorized parties
