Learn to understand precious metals
The Yellowstone Assay & Metals Academy is a structured, self-paced curriculum for anyone who wants to understand precious metals — from the basics of what gold and silver actually are, to the nuances of authentication, valuation, and the markets that surround them. No sales agenda. No pressure. Just clear, honest education.
Why we built this
Most people who come to us with metals — inherited collections, old jewelry, coins from a safe deposit box — have never had anyone explain what they actually have. The Academy exists to change that. Whether you are a first-time inheritor, a curious collector, or a professional who wants to understand metals better, this curriculum is for you.
Foundations
What precious metals are and why they matter
Level 100 covers the fundamentals — what gold, silver, platinum, and palladium actually are, how they are measured and described, and why they have held value across centuries and cultures. This level is for anyone starting from the beginning.
Level 100 of the Academy was designed to answer a set of basic but important questions: What are precious metals? Why have people valued them for thousands of years? How are they priced in modern markets? What forms do they come in? And how might someone begin approaching ownership thoughtfully and responsibly? Throughout this level, one theme has appeared repeatedly: clarity matters more than speed. The goal was never to push the reader toward immediate action. Instead, it was to build the confidence that comes from understanding the basic structure of precious metals and the markets around them.
Learn Before You Buy. Understand Before You Sell.
The purpose of the Yellowstone Assay & Metals Academy has never been to rush decisions, create urgency, or tell the reader what to do. Its purpose has been to build understanding. From the beginning, this Academy has treated precious metals as something worth studying carefully. Gold and silver are often surrounded by noise — headlines, predictions, opinions, fear, excitement, and misunderstanding. But beneath all of that, the metals themselves remain simple. They are physical. They are durable. They are finite. They are understood across time.
The Academy began with the foundations: what precious metals are, why they have held value, how physical products are priced, and how ownership can begin responsibly. From there, it moved into the modern metals market, explaining how prices are formed, how supply and demand interact, how physical ownership differs from financial exposure, and why authenticity matters. The later levels brought precious metals into the broader structure of financial life — portfolios, retirement structures, tax awareness, storage, custody, professional market dynamics, central banks, global gold flows, legacy planning, and long-term strategy.
By the end of this Academy, the reader should not feel pressured. They should feel steadier. They should be able to look at precious metals with clearer eyes, better questions, and a stronger sense of responsibility. Precious metals are not about prediction. They are not about panic. They are not about chasing every movement in price. At their best, they are about stewardship. They ask the owner to think in longer time frames, to understand the difference between value and noise, and to make decisions that can still make sense when the excitement of the moment has passed.
If this Academy has done its job, the reader leaves with more than information. They leave with orientation. They understand what precious metals are. They understand how the market works. They understand how metals may fit within a broader financial life. They understand the responsibilities that come with ownership. And most importantly, they understand that patience, discipline, and clarity are not passive traits — they are forms of strength.
That is the foundation of responsible metals ownership. Learn before you buy. Understand before you sell. And carry that understanding forward with stewardship.
